I plan to fly from Bloomington, Il to Atlanta Ga. on Sept 29th for a wedding. I have never flown before this, so how much time should I give myself to get thru the airport.
Also, when I get to Atlanta, do they have rent a car centers in the Airports, so I have some wheels to get going?
are you joking? Atlanta airport is a city in itself. there are buses that roll by the terminals to pick up people for each rental car place.
Id say get to the airport about 21/2 hours early maybe 3 since its your first time, but the longest part is usually checking baggage because some of the airlines understaff their counters.
2-3 hours before your flight is recommended. Since this is your first time I would go for at least 3 hours. This may seem like a long time but in my opinion it will be much better to relax before your flight rather than rush around. Bring a nice book or magazine or just enjoy people watching while you wait for your flight.
When you get to Atlanta they will have a lot of car rental companies in the airport. Your best bet is to reserve your car on the Internet before you get there. There are plenty of sights like expedia or priceline that will help you find the best price for your car.
When you get off the plane follow the signs to pick up your luggage. After getting your luggage follow the signs for ground transportation. If you get lost just ask. People are usually willing to help out.
1-1-1/2 hours should be fine should be fine from Bloomington. Some rentals are at the airports, or shuttles will drop you to their office. It’s always best to ‘reserve car rental’ prior to departure…..it works well online.
They usually reconmend to check in an hour for an local flight (within the country) and two hours for international flight. I think for this, you should try an hour and a half as you need to go through more security since August.
All airports I’ve been to, including the small ones that you need to walk outside from the plane to the terminal, have car rental places in the terminal. You can rent your car over the phone or via internet so you don’t have to wait so long in the queue.
3 hours
